A little bit about me

I've been crafting for years. I'm a crafty crafter. I enjoy most crafts and will dabble at anything. You can lose me in Hobby Craft. I'm one of those people who sees something on Pinterest for sale for £13. And I think hey I could do that myself and save some money.. goes to Hobby Croft and 3 hours later, £60 worse off and I make a very inferior version of whatever it was I was trying to copy (badly).

I've never been particularly skilled at anything I have tried and I always envy those that produce the most beautiful art. I have art envy.

I've been collecting miniatures since I was little. It started with my fairy house. I made a house for the tooth fairy and her pals. I left little treats for them. As I got older and had more money, I was able to buy a dolls house and furnish it beautifully from a local dolls house shop which has since sadly closed down. I got married and had kids and I sold it.

When I moved into a bigger house I started collecting again but it was a struggle. The dolls house was locked up away from prying eyes. Not appreciated by anyone and gathering dust. I had started to create a vampire den in the loft and that stayed right there on the back burner.

As well as the traditional dolls house collections, I have always appreciated the uniqueness of the more unusual and modern miniatures. My dolls have an iPad, a tiny mobile phone and French lingerie. The bookshelf is furnished with tiny copies of Twilight and Game of Thrones. There's a dad reading a tiny Playboy magazine in the bathroom.

Recently, I started watching YouTube tutorials of creating room boxes. I instantly fell in love with this idea. The first one I ever watched was an artist recreating Hagrid’s hut in miniature. What a great way to create a room more quickly. On my kitchen table. Where I could quickly stick up some wallpaper or paint a chair whilst cooking, cleaning and looking after my family. I spent hours searching for a suitable room box and throughout that process I really enjoyed it. The ideas were flowing. Before even starting on The Abandoned Room, I had ideas for two three four more rooms! Pinching bits from my original house, ebay, etsy, the marketplace and making my own, I have poured my soul into a little room. I realised I have exposed myself in my miniature art. Unexpectedly.

I always strive to share my vulnerabilities and weaknesses, flaws and everything about me. I wear my heart on my sleeve. What you see is what you get. I guess I'm pretty weird. I was the weird kid at school. These days I tend to embrace my weird. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and vampires.. and I'm obsessed with serial killers and crime dramas. I watch Dr Pimple Popper in bed at night to help me sleep.. and YouTube videos of true crime stories. I don’t do small talk. I want to know everything about you. The deep stuff too. Be real with me and make a connection.

I'm a witch and an empath. I see people. (And not in the creepy Sixth Sense dead people way). If you laugh, I laugh. If you cry, I cry. I feel everything around me. I see patterns in nature and beauty in everything. I don't want to feel the ugly, it hurts my heart too much.

I love people. I watch people. I love people watching. Humans are a pretty strange bunch. We shy away from being strange and crave routine, habits and consistency. Weird is bad. Same is good. We sit in the same seats, we use the same locker at the gym, we feel out of place if our little constructs in life are changed. But embrace your weird. It's what makes you you.

I'm seeking connections and I love when I make a connection. I hope you like my projects as much I liked making them.

Embrace your weird people! Embrace your weird.
