The Abandoned Room Part 1

I've been collecting miniatures for many years but decided recently to up my game and make a diorama. I do love my dolls house but I find the rooms are hard to reach and being locked away upstairs, I don't give it the attention it deserves. So I'm browsing eBay one day and find a room box with two open walls. Inspired by my teenager's abandoned photography project and being a big fan of NCIS and true crime, I decided to try my hand at making my own room from scratch. This is all made to 1:12 scale.

I start off by building the sides using No More Nails (I am a genius). This is the first time I have built from scratch. The room box is from ebay seller.

I am using a cakemakers wooden turntable to help me with this project and means I can spin the room around without messing up paint or glue.

Next I add some wallpaper. This comes as an A4 sheet but I wanted a little more authenticity so I cut up into 1 inch strips and glue it to the walls in the same way you would in real life. It's messy but it gives the look I want to achieve. I then wash the walls down with brown water from paint and make them look stained with nicotine and other 'gross things'.

Then I add the floor. This is a print at home sheet from Pixelmarket . It's pretty awesome! I glue that
down and wash over the floor with Modge Podge which gives a nice finish and also acts to protect the paper.

Then I add a curtain pole which I ripped out of an old dollshouse I bought from the marketplace. I use old nets to make tiny curtains and soak them in a cup of tea for that nicotine stained effect.

Switching to the outside of the room I decided to decorate the external walls with an embossed distressed wallpaper from eBay.

Back inside, I decorate a chair from eBay and basically destroy it. This was excellent fun and I kept thinking of different things to do to it like making the armrest yellow and adding fake ash (this was gravel from a model kit). I used a small metal grater to rough up the fabric. Stabbing a cushion and finally adding the cutest(?) little ashtray and fag from eBay again. (See Part 2)
